MuLan Party

Invitations: Scroll design or on a fan write the party invite and directions. Invite the kids to come dressed up like a Character or in traditional type Chinese clothing. Decorations: Chinese Kites, paper lanterns, fans, paper dragons. (make by taking long pieces of construction paper and fold accordion like. Attach a dragon head and tail to either end). Origami animals.

Cake and Food:
Mushu Cake:
Use a bundt cake, cut in half and shape like snake.  For an idea of what it looks like. Glaze it bright red instead, add green candy melts down the back for scales.  Print and laminate a Mushu head, attached to a piece of red covered toilet paper tube and stick in the cake.  For the tail use a bunch of M&M wrapped in colored plastic wrap and tie with bright ribbons, strung along behind the cake -- sort of like a kite tail. For candles use those long skinny sparkler one

Homemade fortune cookies...make age appropriate fortunes
1/2 cup flour
1 T cornstarch
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Mix above together
Blend in
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup egg whites (about two lg. eggs)
1 1/2 teaspoons water
1 teaspoon vanilla
Stir until smooth
Bake on greased cookie sheet. Spread dough into a circle. Bake at 300 until cookie turns light brown.
When done, place fortune in center, quickly fold by bringing two opposite sides of the cookie together, grasp ends of folded cookie and pull together to crease. (should make about 6)
Serve any Chinese food, if you plan on feeding them. Serve with chopsticks and tea. Find Chinese teacups to drink from.

Goodie Bags:
Find 'Chinese take out' boxes to put goodies in. Silk items, fans,
Chinese yo yos, finger traps, Mulan figures, cup and saucer from Chinese tea set, fortune cookies.

Games and Activities:
Make Streamers- need chopsticks and crepe paper. Have the kids attach one end of the crepe paper to the chopstick and twirl them about.
